Monday started off the same as most other days, although I am getting really addicted to cornflakes in the morning.
The plan was to walk around the lslands and get some fresh air. I figured I’d get some exercise and save some money on transport as it was killing my bank balance.
Drottninggatan is a pretty cool and very long walking street that goes down the city centre and also goes the same direction as I needed to go so that was handy.
The first stop was by the Palace and Old Town, mainly because I missed the street. But the headed towards Skeppsholmen (ships Island). Most of the houses are yellow due to it being the old Navy colours, lots of house boats and houses all around it.
Before heading to the next Island I stopped at my first TGI Friday’s for a bite to eat.
The Vasa Museum was interesting. It house one of the most intact ship wrecks in the world that was dug up in the 60’s. Kinda silly though as it sank in the harbour like 500m from the dock to due a bad design. Still though it is 98% original, which is impressive given its age.
A quiet-ish walk home, before going to “Amercian” steakhouse as Grill was closed. It seems the Swedes love steakhouse’s and burger joints.
Day 69
Well the walking starts to get tiresome after a while so today was a day to catch the train to the Globe. The metro system in Europe is so good it just makes me annoyed about how shit it is back home.
The Globe is the worlds largest spherical building. To me it looks like a giant death star half built. But its just a stadium.
There is a cable car that goes up the side of it which feels strange as it tilts to keep the cab level. But you get good views of the city from the top.
After getting the train back I tried to track down the Under the Bridge’s boat tour only to discover it doesn’t run anymore, or at least it doesnt run in winter. So I got the Winter Tour, which goes around a few of the Islands and you get a bit of history as well.
Amoungst all the Islands we caught a Giraffe shaped crane, the burger king boat and a massive retirement home.
Ended the night with another steakhouse called Rolfs Kok. It even started snowing, so that makes country number 4 that i’ve had snow in!
