I was hoping to start the morning early by catching a ride into Oslo with Janet on her way to work, but I felt like crap and all the shops don’t open till 10am. Turned out to be a good decision as it started to snow.
Almost missed the train trying to run though the snow (now ice) in -7 deg. But got on just in time and managed to use the time to finish up some of my blog posts that I had to catch up on writing.
With a bit more of an idea of what Oslo was like I grabbed a day bus ticket and started walking. Came across the Dig Dipper record store. Spotted a copy of Jimi Hendrix Blues but couldn’t figure out a way to get a record home on the plane without breaking it.
Grabbed the tram upto the Sculpture park. That place is pretty cool. Lots of sculptures and lots of naked people sculptures, as in all of them. I have no idea what the theme of the park is but it seemed to be along the lines of “lets make people sculptures of naked people in stange positions”.
On the way back into town I stopped by the Nobel Peace Prize hall exhibition, Akershus Fortress and the town hall. Really it was just alot of walking around, the Fortress was a bit underwhelming unless I missed a big part of it.
While waiting for the next train to arrive I found the local Christmas market, which would be the 5th one I had been to so far. But luckily they had Moose burgers and ugly Christmas sweaters. GOLD MINE!
And last but not least I headed up to the top of the Opera house. Slippery as crap walking up a slate roof, but was rewarded with a nice little view.
I’m a little pissed off I havn’t seen a pub called “Odin’s Beard” yet. I think there is a great opportunity being wasted.
Day 49
Wednesday was alot quieter in the end. Jacob was sick (or so said the suspicious daycare centre). But we got to squeeze in a drive over the mountains behind Drammen and a drive upto the Spiralen. The lakes on the way back were frozen enough to have snow settle on them which looked pretty cool with the giant cracks going from one end to the other.
A bit more snow and a few beers with Anders and his NZ mate made for a good night listening to old Chess Records classics.
